SUMMARY:Gurkha Fighters and their Firearms – free temporary exhibition at The Gurkha Museum
DESCRIPTION:Gurkha Fighters and their Firearms – free temporary exhibition at The Gurkha Museum\n29 September to 22 November 2025 (1000 hrs to 1600 hrs)\nFor over two centuries, Gurkha soldiers have been celebrated as some of the bravest and most skilled soldiers in the world. Now, for a limited time, The Gurkha Museum Trust invites you to explore examples of its firearms collection, showcasing examples from throughout their service, from the mountains of Afghanistan to the trenches of France and the jungles of Burma. \nOur special temporary exhibition this autumn brings together an extraordinary collection of firearms, including service weapons, personal sidearms and pieces used by the Gurkhas implacable opponents. Each piece tells its own story: of battlefield innovation, of the bond between soldier and weapon, and of a heritage forged in steel and gunpowder. \nIn our second-floor gallery, see rare and historic weapons used in pivotal campaigns, carried by iconic soldiers and generals, or captured in the heat of battle. Learn how these weapons were made, adapted, and personalised to meet the demands of some of the most challenging battlefields in history.  Come and discover about the Museum’s redevelopment (known by its Nepali name Project Kaida).  Come and browse our museum shop.  Come and relax with a cup of tea or coffee.\nThis is a FREE exhibition, although donations to support this and future exhibitions would be most appreciated. \nThe Temporary Exhibition will be closed after lunchtime on Friday October 3 and Saturday October 4 for a private function.\nPlease note unfortunately, the exhibition will be closed to the public on: Saturday 4 October, Monday 6 October, Saturday 11 October, Monday 13 October, Tuesday 14 October, Wednesday 15 October, Monday 20 October, Thursday 23 October, Thursday 30 October, Friday 31 October, Wednesday 5 November, Thursday 6 November, Friday 7 November, Friday 14 November, Saturday 15 November, Tuesday 18 November, Wednesday 19 November, and Friday 21 November.\nThis is more than an exhibition of weaponry – it is an insight into the courage, skill, and steadfast will of the Gurkhas themselves. \nTo receive updates on Gurkha heritage, the redevelopment, and all future temporary exhibitions and events at The Gurkha Museum, please consider subscribing to our free e-newsletters or becoming a Friend of Gurkha heritage.\n
